Distinguished and Famous people from Cardinia

🌾 Geoff Young

Geoff Young received Cardinia Shire's Stan Henwood Award in 2025 for sustained community service. His work included leadership with the Garfield Scout Group, Rotary involvement in Garfield and Pakenham, and leadership of the Pakenham and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show Society from 2003. He also contributed to the Pakenham Bluelight program and disaster relief during the Labertouche fires. His work connected youth activities, a district show and practical assistance during an emergency.

🤝 Noelene Blair

Noelene Blair received Cardinia's Stan Henwood Award in 2026 after more than thirty years of community involvement. Her work included the Woorilla Writers Group and poetry prize, Emerald Community House, GEMCO, the Emerald Market and the PAVE/Winterfest programme. Alongside events and arts organisations, she contributed through preparing submissions and mentoring people in everyday skills. Her story shows the organisational work behind a creative community: a poetry competition or festival needs people willing to keep arranging, encouraging and making the next event possible.

📚 Lloyd Edmonds

Lloyd Edmonds taught at a one-teacher school at Tonimbuk from 1928, following teacher training in Melbourne. The appointment belonged to an early working life that combined country classrooms with study and political activity. He later helped form a teachers’ union and served with a transport regiment in the Spanish Civil War before returning to teaching and Commonwealth industrial-welfare work. Tonimbuk’s connection is the actual school posting, not the location of those later events. His career supplies a glimpse of the varied lives that could pass through the demanding role of a small school’s sole teacher.

🏠 Guilford Bell

Guilford Bell’s partnership with Graham Fisher produced the Grant/Collins House at Officer in 1986. The project belonged to the later years of a career known for formal planning, privacy, courtyards and carefully arranged views. Bell had designed houses for prominent clients across Australia, drawing on both modernist and classical ideas. Earlier work included supervising construction and landscaping at Hayman Island’s resort, while archaeological travel in Syria helped shape his architectural interests. Officer’s connection is the house produced by his firm, rather than a claim that he lived in the district. It links a local building with an unusually wide-ranging design career.
